Caldwell County, Texas

Caldwell County is located in the heart of Central Texas, approximately 35 miles south of Austin. The county seat, Lockhart, is internationally recognized as the “Barbecue Capital of Texas” — a title enshrined by the Texas Legislature in 2003.

Founded in 1848 and named for Mathew Caldwell, a soldier in the Texas Revolution, the county covers 546 square miles of rolling blackland prairie and post oak savanna. With a growing population of approximately 47,000 residents, Caldwell County balances its rich agricultural heritage with expanding residential and commercial development driven by proximity to Austin.

All Caldwell County roads have reopened following closures related to the recent flood watch. Residents should continue to exercise caution near low water crossings.
