Election Workers

Support democracy by serving as a election worker — learn about eligibility, compensation, and training.

Caldwell County Elections relies on dedicated community volunteers to staff polling locations on Election Day and during early voting. Serving as a election worker is a meaningful way to support democracy in your community.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Registered to vote in Caldwell County
  • U.S. citizen, 18+ years of age
  • Not currently holding elected office or working for an elected official
  • Not a candidate in the current election
  • Enjoy working with the public and community involvement
  • Able to work a full election day shift

Compensation

  • Election Day workers: paid hourly
  • Presiding Judges paid at a higher rate
  • Mandatory training session (paid)
  • Contact the Elections Office for current rates

Training & Certification

  • Election Worker 1 — minimum certification required to work elections
  • Election Worker 2 — required if appointed to a term position
  • Required training before each election
  • Set up and manage voting equipment; verify voter eligibility and photo ID; assist voters

Work Hours

Election Day

Polls open 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. Workers arrive by 6:00 a.m. and stay until equipment is packed and results are delivered.

Early Voting

Hours vary by election. Contact the Elections Office for the schedule for an upcoming election.

Texas Election Schedule

  • General Elections: First Tuesday after the first Monday in November
  • Primary Elections: First Tuesday in March (even-numbered years)
  • Uniform Elections: First Saturday in May
  • Early Voting: Up to 17 days before election through 4 days before Election Day
